RACE 1 AUSTRALIA DAY MAIDEN 1:28 PM (1208M)

Plenty of winning chances in this first division of the 1208-metre three-year-old maiden and we’re leaning towards BOUNCE DOWN to break through. The Lindsey Smith-trained filly found Salorsci too sharp when resuming here last Thursday but the effort was still sound, and we feel as though she maps well from the low draw and should appreciate stepping up to the six furlongs. We’re not huge fans of racing second up off a seven-day break, however, the Smith stable is a unique beast and if anyone can pull it off it’s them. BOUNCE DOWN is promising and looks the horse to beat. KINGDOM AND EMPIRE is a horse we have a bit of time for and he drops back to maiden company after an encouraging first-up effort against quality opposition down the ‘Straight 1000’ at Pinjarra. Should have finished closer on that occasion and this looks a nice second-up option for him, especially from the draw. BATTALION HILL enjoyed the run of the race in transit and worked home well enough to place against the older maidens on debut here last start. Should enjoy a similar soft run and he’s a top-four contender, while first-upper HEAD CLASH looked sharp in his recent Belmont trial and stretched the neck of Salorsci on that occasion, with that form reading particularly well.

Tips: 6-1-2-4
Suggested Bet: (6) BOUNCE DOWN each way.

RACE 2 SUMMER BRIGHT LAGER MAIDEN 2:08 PM (1208M)

Things don’t get any easier in the second division of the 1208-metre three-year-old maiden, however, we found it hard to go past the Simon A. Miller-prepared DEADLY SHOT. Was kept safe in betting when resuming against good opposition at Ascot last Saturday week and found his rivals a little sharp, but that run will bring him forward considerably and he looks well placed back in maiden company. Drawn the pole for talented junior hoop Aaron Mitchell and the son of Musket did have form around top-liners Get Over It and Samovare during his initial racing preparation. DEADLY SHOT on top. FIREMAN FREDDY competed well in three-year-old open company first up down the ‘Straight 1000’ at Pinjarra and we really liked the way he hit the line on that occasion. Drawn to get the gun run stepping up to six furlongs and FIREMAN FREDDY looks the main danger. NAZARETH has caught our eye at both outings to date and we feel as though he should have finished at least 1-1/2 lengths closer in this grade here last start. Awkward draw means he’s going to have to get back and run on, but the way he got home last time suggests he’s capable of working his way into the top four late, while ZOFFVICTION put in a slashing debut performance on New Year’s Day and the Sir Snugalot formline measures up fairly well.

Tips: 1-3-4-2
Suggested Bet: (1) DEADLY SHOT each way.

RACE 3 RANGEVIEW STUD MAIDEN 2:44 PM (2019M)

The Sharon Miller-trained ELLIOT BOY appears to have this middle-distance maiden at his mercy. Liked the way he worked home behind the well-regarded Fast As The Wind two starts back before finding himself well out of position and having little luck over the mile here last start. Gives us the impression he is looking for the 10 furlongs now and the booking of an in-form Jarrad Noske certainly helps his chances. ELLIOT BOY to win. The wildcard in this race is CUBAN ROCKET, who never really got warm when a beaten favourite first up at Albany last start. Trainer Justin Warwick has, not surprisingly, quickly stepped him up to a middle distance and it is interesting to see Chris Parnham replace Lucy Warwick in the saddle. We’ve already had a good look at the rest of this field, but if any runner is going to surprise it’s CUBAN ROCKET. MISS RUMOUR MILL stepped up to this journey for the first time last start and didn’t quite hit the line after being ridden closer to the speed than usual. Still a solid effort and must rate among the main fancies back in maiden company, while IRON MAGGIE continues to race consistently in similar events and is a lock for your exotic bets.

Tips: 4-6-5-2
Suggested Bet: (4) ELLIOT BOY to win.

RACE 4 PARKS TAVERN MAIDEN 3:20 PM (1108M)

We’ve already overlooked two Peters Investments debutantes earlier in the card, however, we weren’t going to make it three with Testa Rossa filly REGAL MOON appearing to have a bit of class on her side. Looked very sharp when scoring a soft win at the Belmont trials recently, hitting the line hard under a good hold from William Pike and this doesn’t appear to be an overly strong all aged maiden. With ‘The Wizard’ suspended the Cerise And White’s number two Glenn Smith has been booked to ride and will have to be switched on to find a reasonable position in running from the wide gate, although there appears to be plenty of pace so the early-and-middle tempo should at least be even, which will suit. REGAL MOON to kick off her career in style. THE ANAESTHETIST is a youngster we have been tracking closely and he hasn’t done a lot wrong in his two outings this prep. He’s race-fit and in-form so he stands out as the logical danger. STELLAR IGNITION hit the track with a boom on debut in November, however, he busted after getting caught up in an intense speed battle. Previous trial form was spot on and we’re going to back in the Miller stable to get this fellow back on track, while first-upper JUST JUDE is a get back/run on type who showed promise during his last campaign and was never out of first-gear in a recent Bunbury trial.

Tips: 12-2-3-6
Suggested Bet: (12) REGAL MOON to win.

RACE 5 JCW ELECTRICAL HANDICAP 3:55 PM (1690M)

This looks an ideal option for MUSICAL ART with the Class 1 galloper putting the writing on the wall with an eye-catching effort at Ascot last Wednesday. The Brock Lewthwaite-trained four-year-old, a maiden winner here three starts back, made up a stack of ground after getting too far back and comfortably clocked the fastest closing 600-metre time. Shouldn’t have to drift that far back jumping from a low draw in this smaller field and MUSICAL ART should be saluting. Former eastern-stater DR SYKES ran well at his WA debut last start and will have derived a heap of benefit from that hit-out. We’re expecting to see an improved version of DR SYKES second up and he will make his presence felt. ECHOES IN TIME surprised most when saluting first up at Ascot and her follow-up Pinjarra run was better than it reads, after she was forced to cover additional ground in running. Should enjoy a much cozier run jumping from the inside alley here and she’s certainly in the mix, while PIGEON POST toughed it out to win after racing on top of a strong tempo at Albany last start and that effort suggests he’s capable of figuring in the finish of this.

Tips: 4-1-5-6
Suggested Bet: (4) MUSICAL ART each way.

RACE 6 TABTOUCH SUPER PICK HANDICAP 4:30 PM (1108M)

We have a strong opinion of late-maturing sprinter STREETS OF LONDON and this looks a nice option for the five-year-old to record back-to-back victories, Kicked off his campaign with a huge effort behind the sharp Dash Dot Dash in the Showcase Maiden at Pinjarra before scoring an effortless win on the seven-day back up at Albany last Saturday week. Team Warwick is just starting to get their eye back in after a lean period, and STREETS OF LONDON is race-fit/in-form and should be able to continue on his winning way. First-upper KNUCKLE DOWN is a developing type who showed plenty during his previous racing campaign. Held his own against solid opposition in a recent Belmont trial and he appears to be the only horse capable of matching our on-top pick. Former eastern stater LOTHELLO has been performing well enough this prep and should enjoy the right run with an in-form Clint Johnston-Porter in the saddle. Don’t be surprised to see him run a cheeky race back on his home track, while SIRIUS PROSPECT didn’t do a lot first up at Pinjarra but is capable of improving sharply jumping from a low draw second up.

Tips: 4-1-6-2
Suggested Bet: (4) STREETS OF LONDON to win.

RACE 7 SOUTH WEST SUMMER SIZZLE 5:10 PM (1208M)

Intriguing edition of the South West Summer Sizzle with exciting local four-year-olds MISS SONDRIO and JUST ACT NATURAL standing out as the two major winning chances. And we simply can’t jump off the MISS SONDRIO bandwagon after the Bruce Watkins-trained mare’s sensational summer campaign has seen her string together four impressive wins in succession. Drops 4kg stepping up into this company after her soft last-start Class 3 victory at Pinjarra and, while this by far her toughest test to date, we feel as though she has the talent to step up and make it five on the trot. JUST ACT NATURAL is the obvious danger with his ability to roll forward and lead, and he will give MISS SONDRIO something to catch. Was only overhauled close to the line at Ascot on Perth Cup Day and the formlines out of that race are very strong through the likes of recent metro winners Three Votes, Shady Grey and Agachar Cruz. JUST ACT NATURAL goes good and must be respected. FLYTEGO looks well placed here and hasn’t been far away at Ascot in recent times. Still competing well into his seven-year-old season and FLYTEGO is capable of running on into a top-four finish, while MAIN INSTIGATOR enjoyed the run of the race second up at Pinjarra last start and cashed in by scoring a good win. We liked the way he hit the line on that occasion, but the awkward alley here does hinder his winning chances.

Tips: 9-6-2-8
Suggested Bet: (9) MISS SONDRIO to win.

RACE 8 XXXX BUNBURY CUP ON 23 MARCH HANDICAP 5:45 PM (1410M)

Improving four-year-old SILVER KNOWS was rewarded for her consistency with a good maiden win at Pinjarra last Sunday week, when given every conceivable chance by Jarrad Noske from gate one. Appears as though she’s going to enjoy a similarly soft run in transit from a sweet low draw in this and she stands out as the race-fit/in-form on-top selection. SILVER KNOWS is the go. SHADABLAZE has been freshened-up since her out-of-character poor performance at Ascot last month. Showed she was back on track with an eye-catching trial effort at Lark Hill recently and we like the way Clint Johnston-Porter is riding at the moment. SHADABLAZE has a bit of ability and can’t be left out of calculations. OUTSPOKEN DUKE is a four-year-old staying type who has shown a level of promise in the past and has been sharpened up for with two lead-up barrier trials. We wouldn’t be surprised to see him run a race at odds fresh, while COOL IMAGE faces a tough task from a wide draw but his best form stacks up very well against this opposition.

Tips: 8-6-7-4
Suggested Bet: (8) SILVER KNOWS to win.
