In a memorable finish the vastly-improved Pinjarra mare Bedamijo hung on gamely to defeat the fast-finishing Tower Of Lonhro by a nose in yesterday’s listed $100,000 Prince Of Wales Hotel-Bunbury AHA Cup (2019m).

The Tara Itzstein-trained eight-year-old was able to hold the lead from her inside barrier without encountering too much early pressure and regular rider Shaun O’Donnell was able to rate the daughter of¬†Helenus to perfection in the middle stages, before setting sail for home at the top of the straight.

Bedamijo skipped clear and appeared to have the race parcelled up before topweight Tower Of Lonhro emerged to challenge over the final 150 metres, however, the post came too soon for the quality Adam Durrant-trained galloper, who charged home from 10th on the turn.

The Tara Itzstein-trained eight-year-old has been a revelation in the WA middle-distance ranks this season, with yesterday’s Bunbury AHA Cup victory coming alongside her dominant victory in the listed $100,000 ATA Stakes (2200m) at Ascot on December 23.

Bedamijo and Tower Of Lonhro appear the two major players in the fast-approaching $120,000 Lion-Bunbury Cup (LR-2200m) on Thursday March 17.
